A one-day Citywalk that takes you from Chen Jia Ancestral Temple to Six Banyan Temple, from the lush greenery of Yuexiu Park to the hustle and bustle of Peking Road to the nighttime overlook of Yangcheng from the Canton Tower, each attraction will keep you coming back for more as you get to know more about this fascinating city.
The Great Buddha Temple in Guangzhou was first built in the Southern Han Dynasty (917-971 AD) and is named Xinzang Temple. It was built by the Southern Han King Liu Jian in response to the twenty-eight mansions in the sky. In the Ming Dynasty, it was expanded into Longzang Temple and later renamed as the Patrol Office. In the first year of the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1649), the government office was destroyed by fire. In the spring of the second year of Kangxi's reign, Prince Shangxi of Pingnan donated his own salary and rebuilt the palace in the style of the official temple in the capital, incorporating the Lingnan local style, which has high cultural and artistic appreciation value.
The the Shakya ManiHall faces south from the north, with a building area of 1200 square meters. It is still the best in Lingnan. Although it has been eroded by wind and rain for more than 300 years, its style and features still exist. The high-quality wood donated by King Annam (now Vietnam) for the beam and column frames is still basically intact to this day. In the eleventh year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign (1733), the governor of Guangzhou, Liu Shuxuan, selected the Great Buddha Temple as the place for preaching and built a preaching pavilion in front of the temple. At the same time, Wei Tuo Hall, Jia Lan Hall, and the east and west gates of "Buddhist Realm" and "Zen Forest" were built on both sides of the main hall. At this time, the temple expanded its scope, Buddhist affairs flourished, and its reputation spread far and wide, becoming one of the five major jungles of Guangfu.
Beijing Road Pedestrian Street is located in the city center. It is smaller than Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, but it is the birthplace of Guangzhou city. Shangxiajiu is equivalent to the front gate fence of Beijing, while Beijing Road Pedestrian Street is more like Wangfujing Street in Beijing. When you come to Guangzhou, you can also position it as the starting point for exploring this city. The business here has flourished since the 10th century in Guangzhou city and continues to this day. Whatever you want to buy, you can basically find it here.
Even if you don't have the intention to shop, it's quite interesting to take a walk on the cobblestone road and explore the ordinary alleys of the ancient streets. This' Three Dynasties Ancient Road 'showcases the blue and gray bricks of the Song Dynasty, the yellow sandstone slabs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, as well as the red, yellow sandstone, and linen stone pavement. In addition, the "treasure of the entire street" is undoubtedly the millennium old road ruins lying quietly under the tempered glass cover. This undoubtedly adds a touch of brightness to Beijing Road, which combines classical atmosphere and commercial center.
In addition, there are also many specialty snacks here, such as squid balls, squid, radish, beef brisket, beef offal, cotton candy, and so on. But relatively speaking, eating on Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street is more suitable, with more options available.
Haixinsha Flower City Square, the new central axis square of Guangzhou city, is surrounded by the Youth Palace, Grand Theater, Library, and Museum. The Flower City Square has an artificial landscape lake, a large fountain, and a light square surrounded by green trees. There are also 5 flower islands where flowers bloom all year round, and events such as flower markets and light festivals are held. The Guangzhou Tower (exterior) is a landmark in Guangzhou, including the transmitting antenna. The tower is 600 meters high and is one of the famous towers in China, offering a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery of Guangzhou from top to bottom. Its head and tail are quite similar, and its waist is long and slender, also known as the "little waist". The lights will turn on here at night, and even if you don't visit the tower, you can come here to take photos of its appearance as a souvenir.
